THREAT INTEL: UK ELECTIONS – Whether we like it or not, Politics drives Security – or Insecurity…

Congratulations to Prime Minister Keir Starmer on The Labour Party’s Historic Victory.

In an extraordinary landslide victory, Keir Starmer has led the The Labour Party to a historic win, signaling a new era of hope for the United Kingdom.

This momentous occasion brings hope and anticipation for a fresh direction, particularly in addressing the myriad challenges that face our nation today.

Among these challenges, the burning issue of Cybercrime stands out as a pressing and pervasive threat. The alarming statistic that under Jisc, 347 UK schools suffered Cyberattacks in 2023, with this number likely to increase this year, is a stark reminder of the urgent need for robust Cybersecurity measures.

Whether we like it or not, Politics drives Security – or Insecurity…

Globally, $200 billion is projected to be spent on cybersecurity this year, yet this is dwarfed by the staggering $10 trillion in losses attributed to Cybercrime. The strategy is clearly wrong.

A $ saved is a $ earned – try saving $trillions…

The current and decades long strategy has been plagued by a total bias of offense over defense and has proven inadequate and flawed. Systemic errors and lack of competence within our government’s intelligence services have left us vulnerable.

Last year the Joint Cyber National Security Strategy (JCNSS) Parliamentary Committee lamented that GCHQ errors made the UK ”Wholly Inadequately prepared for Chinese (and others) espionage.”

As Mr. Starmer steps into his new role, it is imperative that he prioritizes a comprehensive overhaul of our cybersecurity strategy. This includes addressing the biases and oversights that allow Cybercriminals to thrive whilst those trying to defend are made to act like busy fools playing digital Whack-a-Mole.

It is heartening to envision a future where these issues are met with the urgency, competence, and unwavering commitment they demand. As someone deeply invested in this cause, I eagerly offer my support and insights to help pinpoint where mistakes have been made and how they can be rectified as I have at the request of the JCNSS previously.

Congratulations once again to Keir Starmer and the The Labour Party.

May this victory mark the beginning of significant and positive changes, not just in cybersecurity, but across all facets of our governance. The potential to save £billions through more effective strategies is immense, and the opportunity to protect our nation’s future is within our grasp.
