1). ATTACK MITIGATION: Recovering from a sustained Cyber Attack. The consequences of a successful Cyber-attack can be disastrous. From substantial financial loss to significant reputational damage, they can lead to untold operational disruption. Yet despite the clear and present danger, some businesses continue to deprioritise Cybersecurity, with a concerning 15% failing to invest in cyber security measures. Whether this is a calculated decision or a matter of managing risk, it leaves the businesses’ data and processes exposed to attack. For Smaller Businesses, implementing simple security procedures is a strong start. Some quick market research can also highlight that engaging with the right managed services provider (MSP) can be a cost-effective way of enhancing security and reducing cyber risk. Despite this, convincing business leaders to invest in Cyber defences can be an uphill battle. Turning a blind eye could lead to devastating consequences.
2). CYBERCRIME & PUNISHMENT: SMARTPHONE SECURITY – Prolific thieves jailed after handling millions of pounds worth of Smartphones as Metropolitan Police step up efforts to tackle Organised Cybercrime. Four men have been sentenced to prison after detectives dismantled a London-based phone theft gang responsible for handling over 5,000 stolen devices. The gang targeted victims in the capital, stealing their phones and using them to access bank accounts, siphoning off thousands of pounds. Prosecutors estimate the group generated approximately £650,000 by selling the stolen phones. The overall financial impact on the victims, assuming the phones were purchased new, could reach up to £5.1 million during the gang’s 18-month operation
3). WHAT IS CYBERSECURITY COMPLIANCE – Protecting Data and Building Trust – CyberKPI: Compliance is to adhere to standards and regulations set by law or authority groups. Organizations must achieve Compliance by establishing controls that protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information, with a focus on SMEs. For instance, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe outlines specific requirements for the protection of personal data, making it vital for businesses to comply with these standards to avoid legal repercussions
