1). CONNECTIVITY: UK – Full Fibre Broadband Connection Unlocks Growth Potential for UK SMEs. Data from broadband provider Compare Fibre in 2021 revealed that while the UK boasts a 96.8% availability of superfast 30 Mbps broadband, there is a significant disparity in full fibre broadband access across the country. Recent reports indicate a significant improvement in the accessibility and coverage of full fibre broadband throughout the UK. The annual Metrics for the UK independent network sector report reveals that alternative network providers have experienced substantial growth in 2023, rapidly deploying their networks across various premises.
2). COMPLIANCE: NIS2 – Call for Coordinated NIS2 transposition needed to safeguard the single market. The recently updated NIS2 Directive, which aims to establish a robust framework for cybersecurity across the European Union, is set to be integrated into national laws by October 17, 2024. This is crucial for the EU’s single market, especially at this critical juncture. However, most Member States are opting to interpret and implement the common EU rules in their own ways. These differences in how Member States translate the NIS2 Directive into their National Cyber laws lead to a fragmented approach, ultimately weakening the overall cybersecurity of the single market.
3). WHAT IS IoT – CyberKPI: The Internet of Things describes devices with sensors, processing ability, software and other technologies that connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the Internet or other communications networks. IoT has opened up a realm of possibilities for automation and real-time monitoring, and has permeated diverse sectors, showcasing its versatility in smart homes, wearables, healthcare systems, agriculture, and smart farming, boosting energy efficiency and enabling automation.
