CYBER INSIGHTS: GDPR – Latest study reveals GDPR reduced Cyber Attacks but significantly eroded business value
The implementation of the European Union´s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) substantially decreased Data Breaches against European firms but had a negative impact on their overall market value according to research carried out by the University of East Anglia in conjunction with the University of Texas.
GDPR requires any enterprise that controls or processes EU residents’ data to abide by the rules, regardless of its location. Therefore, firms across the world, including those in the US, might be subject to the GDPR if they process EU residents’ personal data.
The research primarily examined the effect of GDPR from the point of enforcement in 2018 to examine how stricter data privacy laws affected their value, investment choices and data breaches.
