In the realm of security, TRUST forms the bedrock of organizational integrity.
Whether we like it or not, Security is totally reliant upon on the competence and honesty of people and suppliers. This is all too often restricted to internal competence. Sadly that is all too often simply not competent enough.
The adage of hiring an Expert is expensive, wait until you see the costs of not hiring an Expert rings true.
However, this reliance breeds significant risk when issues arise. Often, the very individuals entrusted with maintaining security deflect responsibility, invoking plausible deniability and gaslighting true experts to shield themselves from exposure.
We witness this daily. You would be truly shocked to see how human life is placed at risk as opposed to people admitting personal errors and poor judgement.
This dynamic parallels the problematic practice of police policing their own or the hostility external auditors often face. Such conflicts of interest can have severe consequences, including job losses and even fatalities.
The case of Paula Vennells, former CEO of the UK’s Post Office, exemplifies this management style. Under her leadership, systemic flaws were denied and whistle blowers were silenced, leading to wrongful prosecutions and ruined lives.
