This is a Milestone and a HUGE deal for every organization. On this occasion it is to prevent DNS being exploited for Streaming Piracy, however, DNS Tampering, Manipulation, and Abuse is a major factor for today’s cyber crime.

Last week a French court ordered Google, Cloudflare, and Cisco to poison their DNS resolvers to prevent circumvention of blocking measures, targeting around 117 pirate sports streaming domains. The move is another anti-piracy escalation for broadcaster CANAL+ Group, which also has permission to completely deindex the sites from search engine results.

DNS Tampering at the Local ISP Level:

In 2023, Canal+ went to court in France to tackle pirate sports streaming sites including Footybite.co, Streamcheck.link, SportBay.sx, TVFutbol.info, and Catchystream.com. The broadcaster said that since subscribers of local ISPs were accessing the pirate sites using their services, the ISPs should prevent them from doing so. Bravo…

The DNS providers’ assertion that their services are not covered by the legislation was also waved aside by the court. Bravo again…

Ultimately, organizations cannot simply provide DNS or CDN services without taking any responsibility and must be held to account legally to ensure the distribution of content is secure and for the intended parties.

If DHL didn’t deliver your ‘packets’ securely they would have to compensate you. DNS and CDN providers distribute digital packets and are rarely ever held accountable because few know how to analyse.

If organizations adopt this stance, and we strongly advise they do, they will be able to take back a great deal of control on their previously unknown, adopted, and enforced exposure and insecurity that is continually the root cause for digital intrusion and cybercrime.

All we need now are the courts to address DNS being exploited by governments for surveillance which currently enforces the entire world to be EXPOSED and INSECURE…
