1). SME CYBERSECURITY: Probrand Research Reveals Alarming Cybersecurity Gaps in UK Small Businesses Recent research by leading technology services provider Probrand, has uncovered significant Cybersecurity vulnerabilities among UK Small Businesses. The study, which analyzed hundreds of Small to Mid-sized companies, found that 69% are using weak passwords to access critical documents and internal platforms. The Birmingham-based firm’s in-depth Cyber-risk assessments revealed further alarming findings. Nearly half (47%) of Small Businesses lacked updated anti-virus software to detect potential hacking attempts, while 15% had no firewall in place to safeguard against Cyberattacks. Training gaps were also highlighted, with 48% of businesses failing to provide Cybersecurity awareness training to employees, leaving them ill-equipped to identify risks when using company devices.
2). COMPLIANCE: Understanding NIS2 – What UK Small Business Owners Need to Know. The Network and Information Security Directive 2 (NIS2) is a comprehensive update to the original NIS Directive (NIS1), introduced by the European Union (EU) to enhance the cybersecurity of essential services and critical infrastructures. While NIS1 laid the foundation for strengthening cybersecurity across member states, NIS2 expands its scope and introduces more stringent requirements to address the increasing sophistication of cyber threats. For UK small business owners, particularly those operating in sectors considered critical to national infrastructure or offering services to the EU market, understanding the obligations under NIS2 is essential.
3). WHAT IS CYBER TRAINING – Enhancing SME Resilience: The Power of Cybersecurity Training– CyberKPI: Cybersecurity Training teaches response procedures for addressing and managing risks to computer systems. Learning how to identify threats like Cyberattacks, data hacks and Phishing activities, along with the protocols for assessing the risk level.
